Cantor Jill Abramson joined Westchester Reform Temple in 2007. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology from Grinnell College and received a Master of Sacred Music and Investiture as Cantor from Hebrew Union College in 2002. Cantor Abramson is a passionate teacher, focusing on the intersection of the arts and Jewish life, international social justice, and women’s leadership and learning. Prior to her musical life at WRT, Cantor Abramson served 5 years at Congregation Sukkat Shalom in Chicago, IL, where she was also Director of Education. Cantor Abramson is an active member of the American Conference of Cantors, serves on editorial boards for Transcontinental Music Publications and participates in the National Commission for Worship, Music & Religious Living. She also serves on the Admissions Committee for the School of Sacred Music at Hebrew Union College. She brings a strong international commitment to her social justice work having lived in Cameroon, West Africa, taught English in Indonesia, and conceived an Israeli and Arab teen-age choir as part of the international peace program, Building Bridges for Peace. Cantor Abramson has served as Hebrew coach to the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Chicago, IL, and in New York has sung at Merkin Concert Hall and with the Canadian Chamber Orchestra of New York. But mostly, her favorite place to make music is on the bimah at WRT. She is married to Rabbi Jonathan Malamy.
